I booked a private session with my friend Alyssa that was teaching me both pole and yoga. In the past I did heel classes out of New York for so long and I always like to challenge myself more ways than one. It was the best of both worlds like I got to hang out with my friend and learn pole dancing and let go with a friend. You get the comfortability of being yourself and there is no judgement, plus Alyssa knows me since middle school and high school. She always had that big sister role for me. Alyssa always showed her growth in her pole and yoga through her social media. I love that for her and her energy shines bright while she was doing the things she loves. I love people that are passionate about what they are doing and turn it into a business. Then watch them building it from the bottom up.

On February 6th, I went up to northern new jersey to learn pole and yoga with my friend Alyssa. When I got there, we had a little wine while we did yoga and stretch before we hit the pole. We also catch up in between everything else, which I love because I have not seen her in forever. Then, she taught me movement on the pole. Alyssa would show what the movement is supposed to look like and how it is done. Alyssa did it effortlessly teaching me each move and just seeing it in person than on social media. Then, I got to learn the movements one by one like the sit and spin, spin, so much more.
The energy and the vibe between the two of us was unmatched it was only good energy from start to finish. Towards the end of the private session, we did a freestyle to Tank’s song “I love Ya “featuring Yo Gotti. The fact that we flow so easily to the music and kept going to a certain part of the song was unmatched and in sync with the whole session. Plus, for me it was so much fun and easier for me to let go because Alyssa gives off that good energy and she always been careful and fun. I would recommend her private session with Alyssa either in person or in zoom. You follow her business page on Instagram

  •      La vita e bella

         La vita e bella

On October 24th at noon my cousin and I went to New York City to bring Italy to us, since we could not go to Rome, Italy ourselves. The Fever app and site are doing all these events around NYC. We decided to go to the Michelangelo’s Sistine Chapel, where we can see the paintings on the ceilings. Piece by piece you got to see every detail and paint stroke in all the paintings. Then they gave you what the paintings meaning with their site and listening to how Michelangelo went about making each specific painting.

After we left the museum, we decided to keep the Italy theme going by heading into Little Italy. So, we walked around until we found the best restaurant and we did. The restaurant was called “IL Cortie” and the restaurant made you feel like you were in Italy from how they made the place look to the waiter calling you bella every time they see you. Like for me, I never been to Italy, but if its anything like that restaurant sign me up please!

I would recommend you guys do you own “bring whatever country to you if you cannot go to “since covid. It is a different and fun feelings like when you do go to the country and experience the real thing. But, in the meantime, New York City is the melting pot of every nationality, and you can feel like you are visiting a country without leaving. The experience is a breath of fresh air and try something out of your comfort zone. Honestly, you will not regret at it, be one of your top experiences you ever had.

  •     Private Dance Session with Yasmine

One random day at my job, I had a feeling something was missing in my life. So, on my break I hit up my friend on Instagram because she teaches heels classes and does privates. Plus, I really missed dance. Anyways, Yasmine agreed to do the private dance session for me.  Privates are a dance session is a one-on-one session with the dance teacher to teach you the basics and some choreography. Then Heels classes that I’ve taken all my 20s into my 30s is its sexy heels classes to take home to dance for your man or for yourself to better for yourself.)

Little history on Ripley Grier Studio from their site at Ripley-Grier Rehearsal Studios New York Story | Ripley-Grier Studios (ripleygrier.com) “In 1984, West Side Rehearsal Studios (131 West 72nd St.) opened, with Patricia Ripley as the manager. Previously she was an exercise/dance teacher in a fitness studio next door at 133 W. 72nd St.,” Creative Energy Studio” She and her partner split and when looking for another space she met a contractor who was building a three-story addition to 131. He was looking for a manager for his rehearsal studios. “What are rehearsal studios?,” she asked, (Duh!) They worked out an arrangement and she became the manager of West Side Rehearsal Studios. As part of the deal, she was given her own studio to teach classes.”  Now, back to my private dance session with Yasmine

Let us fast forward to the day of the private dance session at Ripley Grier Studios with Yasmine. She taught did stretches, technique, work across the floor, retention for the choreography. I learnt the back to the basic of doing a heel class. Since, I have not done a heels class in a year since the pandemic even though the virtual classes were not the same than in studio. During, this private dance session her vibe was fun and energetic. Yasmine dropped good advice and motivation and what she learned through her dance journey.

After the warmup, where I dance with no heels so I can get the movement without the heels. So, it will be easier in the heels when I do the whole choreography. we did a little quick choreography to “In My Bed” By Rotimi ft Wale where I swipe my booty and sit on my hip and walking like “I’m that Bitch “but, I posted on all my social media if you guys have not watched it yet. It is not too bad for not dancing for a year, different atmosphere than dancing in the studio than at home. Yasmine was very motivating and her authenticity through the whole dance session. Also, made the private session more comfortable so I could pick up the choreography. I have not danced in a year, but only at home taken Brinn class in a zoom. After, taken my two-hour class with Yasmine I am definitely taking another private from her.

Q: You’ve worked for great fashion brands for over 20, does it get old? What keeps you motivated, what inspires you?

A: What keeps motivated is the idea of winning. Every year we set new goals & financial targets for our brand, and knowing that my team and i play a role in achieving them never gets old. Product is our currency and having control over that inspires me to ensure its the best it can be.

Q:As it pertains to your journey navigating through the business world what accomplishment are you most proud of, why?

A: I am proud of that fact that i have been able to work my way up from the assistant buyer to where i am today. I am also proud of the relationships i built, those people who surround and support me, i call them my TRIBE. without them, i would never be where I am today.

Q: You mentioned teamwork and cross functional partnership. Why do you think it is so important? What advice can you share?

A: I am a firm believer that it takes a village. I have seen so many smart people fail because they wanted to do it alone ” their way” and did not seek input from others. Most of the time it was because they wanted to receive all the accolades. I always felt they lacked one, or more of the three main ingredients that highly functioning teams needs need to be successful which are Integrity, Passion, and Accountability. Those qualities are how you gain trust and across teams.

Q: Do you think it is more important to be creative or strategic in business? Where do you excel? Does it tie back to what you enjoy most?

A: I think both are important but without strategy, creativity could go nowhere. I personally feel like I fall in the middle in the terms of where I excel, but I certainly enjoy the creative part of my job the most. It is what inspires me.

Q: Giving or Receiving feedback can be difficult for most people. What is your approach? What advice can you give based on your experience?

A: I like to provide or receive both positive and constructive feedback as often as possible and preferably in the moment. It allows you or others to connect the feedback to a specific action.

Q: Have you achieved everything you sought out to accomplish or is there more? What is next for you?

A: I feel that I have accomplished a lot but I am still young so I have a long road ahead of me. For now, I will continue to do what I love to do which is work hard to play hard.

Q: Do you have any advice any words of wisdom?

A: I actually do! First is to identify your tribe, people who you can trust and who will encourage & believe in you, but more importantly to be honest with you. Second, seek out to become part of a diverse team, who are life long learners, have a strong sense of self, and are not afraid to use their voices. Then listen to what they have to say. Lastly, I would say to never give up, no dream is too big if you believe in your heart that you can do that.

    Best fortune to all,

    CT

  • Pre-Valentines classes and Party

    Pre-Valentines classes and Party

If you are like me, you think valentines is a commercials holiday and you do not need to show your significant other a specific day. Since internet is still big here comes the fake holiday to appreciate anybody. if you are like me you randomly send the guy you are into “His flowers” while he is at work or with his boys. But, hey that is just me.  Let us rewind to when I went to dance classes every weekend. All the heel classes were promoting their Pre-Valentines classes and party. You Know me, I had to go to each one back-to-back.

When those Valentines day classes hit the dance studios, you know what that means. It means the choreography will be extra sensual and it could be floor work, chair dance, just you just dancing in your heels. This is all for your significant other or just for yourself. They would have a cute setup for us like heart balloons, hearts on the table and two bottles of wine or champagne for us. Even one year, Body language Art of seduction had Bedroom Kandi came into class, but ill get into that later. Plus, they always set the mood with whatever R&B that will bring out your sensuality out. That you are dancing for significant other in the room but starting a bit with some wine or champagne. Sometimes, there was chocolate cover strawberries and sometimes just alcohol.

One year, there was Bedroom Kandi shop was there and a raffle to win some toys. Bedroom Kandi has 38 Products of toys we learned about and how to have used them, plus She showed the other products that Bedroom Kandi also had offer.  Then, we learned the choreography to whichever song at the time.

Throughout the years I went to every Pre-Valentines/ Valentines day class and Party because it did not feel like valentines to me. I got to let out the sensual part me come out with whatever music at the time. In the back of my head, I was like “I can’t wait to try this on so so “at the time. No men have got that lucky and I do not know why. Well, maybe it will happen in the future, I could not tell you because I cannot see beyond today. Overall, I felt like a new woman after class and having the biggest smile after class because the energy is simply different. I would not trade the experience for anything and got more in tuned with myself every year.

  • Setting Goals in The Dance Industry

In the middle of this pandemic some of us are waiting for COVID-19 to be over so we can go back into the studio, hopefully this coming year. Bringing in 2021 ready to train in-person and feel that in-studio energy you’ve been missing.  I hope you manifest going on to the next level in your dancing career, and life in general.

The dance studio industry has experience growth over the past five years leading up to 2019. Even through COVID-19, they found ways to make money and set goals.  The three purposes of dance are; style change with time, societal structures, and group interests.  Whether for example, a couple of choreographers done zoom dances classes, others have done YouTube dance tutorials, some dancers trained at home, and some were lucky to still train in the studio even with COVID-19 restrictions. Once the world is open again, what classes do you want to take? With who?  And what goals will you take on this coming year?

Well, if you have some trouble figuring those questions out, here are some examples for you to advance in yourself, personally or professionally. The first one is, set a goal on what you want accomplish in your dance and your career overall. Focus and show out for whatever class you want take and learn from. Take in every word the choreographer is saying to you and make yourself better. The last and final goal is to record your progress in class every chance you get. So, you can watch your progress and see how far you’ve come. You will see the difference in no time because you will feel it and see it.

The Last thing I want you to do is celebrate your successes big or small because as people we forget to celebrate how far we come. Take everything you’ve learned, reflect what class has changed your life, and most of all, celebrate you.  I want you to enjoy the journey and progress that it took you to get there.
